Details on social assistance.

Tasks.
Social assistants take on pedagogical and comprehensive social care tasks. Support for everyday things such as personal hygiene, shopping, food preparation, laundry and room care as well as homework support are also the responsibility of a social assistant.
Conditions.
Social assistants should be fit in the areas of (social pedagogical) care, nursing and housekeeping. Strong communication skills, a high degree of responsibility, empathy, flexibility and psychological stability are basic requirements for this profession.
Locations.
Social assistants are in demand in social facilities such as daycare centers and after-school care centers, residential and nursing homes as well as facilities for people in need of care or outpatient social or diaconal services – i.e. wherever social care and social commitment are required. In addition, private households are also happy to use their services.

Future opportunities.

People with the qualification for vocational training (only applies in Berlin) can improve their chances on the job market by training as social assistants. Trained social assistants then have the opportunity to further qualify as an educator, speech therapist, occupational therapist or geriatric nurse. As the need for nursing staff increases, so does the need for social assistants.
Tasks.
Occupational therapists activate their patients’ physical, psychological and social skills in order to maintain and promote their independence. After accidents, injuries and physical and mental illnesses, they support the reintegration of patients into everyday life. The holistic view of people is in the foreground. Under these conditions, occupational therapists develop individual treatment plans and implement the appropriate therapies and preventive measures. For example, motor-functional, neurophysiological, psychosocial and occupational therapy treatment methods are used. Creative craft and design techniques are often used in therapy.
Requirements
Anyone who is interested in the profession of occupational therapist should be interested in working with people and in medical expertise. The desire for creative work and psychological empathy are also important prerequisites.
Locations.
Your knowledge can be used by trained occupational therapists in occupational therapy practices, in preventive, rehabilitation and specialist clinics or in health centers. You will also find suitable jobs in nursing homes, health facilities for children and adults, in outpatient social services or in dormitories for people with disabilities, as well as in special schools and early intervention centers.
